Well, folks, winter is here, and the riding season is over for another year. 1998 is almost history. The battery on my Road King is out and sitting on my workbench in the basement. There is STA-BIL in the gas. Oh well, what can I do? The world has moved on.

In honor of the season, I thought I would revisit a song that appeared in “From the Hip” in 1996. I hope it will help you get in the holiday spirit. It is a song for motorcycle enthusiasts, so sing it at parties with your friends. Maybe if we all sing loud enough, April will come sooner.

M.M.M.’s Twelve Days of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me a new ’99 Motorcycle.

On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me two fresh tires and a new Motorcycle.

On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me three cases of oil, two fresh tires and a new Motorcycle.

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me four pairs of Levi’s, three cases of oil, two fresh tires and a new Motorcycle.

On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me five days at Sturgis, four pairs of Levi’s…oh, you know … and a new Motorcycle.

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me six nights at Daytona, five days at Sturgis…and a new Motorcycle.

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me seven muscle shirts, six nights at Daytona…and a new Motorcycle.

On the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me eight hundred dollars for a Road Crafter (with all the accessories), seven muscle shirts…and a new Motorcycle.

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me size nine riding boots, eight hundred dollars…and a new Motorcycle.

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love gave to me ten fingers on my new gloves, size nine boots…and a new Motorcycle.

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me eleven thousand miles in 1999, ten fingers on my gloves…and a new Motorcycle.

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me a twelve-month riding season, eleven thousand miles…and a new ’99 Motorcycle.

Happy Holidays to everyone and have a great 1999. Head south after the holidays; get out of here! But don’t forget your motorcycle. If you can’t leave, read Minnesota Motorcycle Monthly. That is why we have winter issues, after all. Ride safe and be free.
